TOPHER MEETS… JAMES BENNETT: Gay Porn Performer and Successful Escort

By  |

I feel like I’ve spent most of Summer 2018 with James Bennett. We met through mother (read mother’s interview here) and it just worked. As Clonezone, we like to work with guys that keep it real and are unpretentious, fun and friendly. James embodies this. We’ve had a few little chats about his work as an escort and porn-performer, but I wanted to talk to him in detail about his work and his life up-to this point. There are lots of frustrating misconceptions about porn stars and escorts. So let’s talk.

Hi James! So tell me… How did a boy from Tottenham with a girlfriend become a Porn Star?

My sexuality was something I struggled with growing up. I knew I had an attraction to boys but there was a lot of environmental factors that made me feel like being GAY was wrong, and having heterosexual lifestyle was the only thing that was acceptable or appropriate. I felt I had to explore hetero life before coming out and being labelled as GAY. I knew from a young age that ‘GAY’ people were often seen in a negative light, people around me would often say things like fucking faggot, fairy, queers etc. and tell me to stay away from them. In my local area, it was hard to express my true self. I’d be picked on for being gay because of my mannerisms; or the way my voice sounds, so I tried to butch it up. I never really accepted my sexuality. I got a girlfriend, then got engaged, and everybody else was happy apart from me. Not being true to me and living a life I didn’t really want lead me to fall into a depressive state, I sought advice from my GP, and ended up on medication for depression. After a while, I realised that I wasn’t ready to settle down. I felt like there was still so much of life for me to explore. There was a lot of feelings and emotions I’d buried down deep, which I only began to reflect on once I was on medication. I met a guy who I fell for, I didn’t notice at the time but I soon realised that I was more comfortable with him than with my fiancée.

Something had to change. Two months before my wedding, I called it all off, returned to my family home and came out as gay. I then felt like my life had been reset. I stopped the medication and began to plan to move on with my new gay life. When I decided to start escorting, I needed money I wanted to meet new likeminded people and obviously, the need for sex was very present. Escorting seemed perfect. I’d kill 3 birds with one stone: meeting other gay men, having sex, and getting paid! . After doing my research and creating a strong network of friends including Mother (aka [email protected]), Jonas Jackson, Xavier Sibley and Gabriel Cross – the rest just naturally fell in place.

You’re very open about your escorting work. How did it begin? Do you remember your first client?

Yes, I don’t think It is anything to be ashamed about. I love my job like… it’s the oldest profession in the world! I’m actually proud to be part of it. I have much respect for the escorts/whores/prostitutes whatever name or label you want to put on it, that came before me. They had a much harder time and there are services nowadays that support sex workers such as the swish clinic at Dean Street. Plus, there are certain websites you can check for warnings of potential dodgy clients from other escorts. I know I’m very lucky to be able to have the opportunities I have today, many before me didn’t have the social networks and internet like we do now. I also know that a lot of people do not agree with escorting, however, I don’t put my business in anybody’s face. You’ll only know what I’m up to if you know me, visit the websites I’m listed on, or mix in the groups I associate with. It was a very close female friend that escorts who first gave me websites to sign up to, and advice on how to deal with clients.

Although I found very quickly escorting as a guy is very different than escorting as a girl. For example; boys have to get hard and clients generally want to see you shoot a load or two. Girls don’t have this issue. I joined websites such as Adultwork, SleepyBoy, and Rentmen. I also worked at an infamous London Male massage parlor for a while. Once I had made enough contacts and networks, I was able to step into being an independent escort. My very first client was a guy who I met on a website, he owned a few pubs and I saw him for about a year. He’d book me every Sunday to go to his and he’d rim my ass for like an hour straight. His online profile was Big Daddy, he was so kind and caring he was literally my big daddy and I was his boy. I remember the first time he picked me up I had to ask two questions:

  1. Are you a policeman? Are you going to arrest me and take me the police station for solicitation? He answered “NO” and had a puzzled look on his face.
  2. Are you planning on murdering me? “No, I want to eat your ass and make you cum.”

Phew, I thought, all good – let’s go!

What’s the life of an escort like? Do you get special treats from customers?

It’s what you make it! Like with any profession. Yes, I love escorting meeting gay men, having sex and earning money! What’s not to like?! Lately, I’ve started thinking I have a sex obsession, so I guess this work is perfect for me. Sometimes clients will offer me things. I’m not materialistic. I always struggle when they ask me what gifts I’d like. Needless to say, I’ve had a few iPhones, a designer bag, a couple of holidays and a few other things. But the gifts are not what I’m after. Sure, I appreciate them but I like to have great chemistry and a rapport with my clients. That way the sex so much better. Also, I’d prefer to have a repeat booking than a luxury gift.

Can you share a unique experience you’ve had with a client?

A client once contacted me via social media requesting that I go to Paris and visit him for the weekend, while he was on a business trip. He sent me Eurostar tickets and everything. I was picked up by his assistant at the train station, taken to his apartment which overlooked the Eiffel Tower in a very posh part of Paris. I still hadn’t seen or met this client. Just his assistant.

Later that evening, after relaxing at the apartment, I was told I was going to meet the client. By this time, I was convinced that I was being sold in some human trafficking ring. His assistant took me to a restaurant where I met my client, who was a super handsome dressed head to toe in Tom Ford. We had an amazing dinner and then great sex back at his place. Not kinky or anything, just really good sex. The next day he gave me some money and told his assistant to take me sightseeing. I didn’t see him until the evening. This time we stayed home drinking champagne and vodka, as I was leaving to back to London.

When did you first move into porn films and why?

I guess it just felt like the right guy step for me. As I mentioned I became good friends with ‘mother’ and he guided me through my live performances as he does with all the boys. He encouraged me to speak with the other performers (unbelievably, I can be shy around my peers) and also spoke with me about shooting some porn. It was around November or December 2017 that I met Jonas Jackson, and we did a live show together. After the show, Jonas was meeting Gabriel Cross to shoot some OnlyFans content. He recommended that I go and meet Gabriel as Jonas knew wanted to do porn but was still in my research phase. Obviously, I went along and took part in the OnlyFans content. The feedback Gabriel got from the clip was very good, and it kinda left me thirsty for more and wanting to see how far and where he could take this.

What’s your favourite scene that you’ve ever shot?

I shot a scene with UKNakedMen with Dmitry Osten and as we were filming, I was spread across two sofas while Dmitry pounded away at my ass. The only problem was the sofas were slipping and I was sliding into the splits (which I cannot do) so Mickey Taylor had to hide behind one of them to stop it moving. As I was getting pounded by Dmitry I remember looking down at Mickey and to me, he resembled a child hiding behind the sofa watching a horror movie. It’s defiantly an outtake moment. Aside from that, I felt that Dmitry and I performed well and seemed to have good chemistry which is a key element when shooting with somebody. Plus, UKNakedMen where great to film with. The scene was completed easily enough and we had a laugh doing it. I hope that I have more experiences like that.

Various Store Appearances | James @ Clonezone

You joined us (Clonezone) for Pride in London and Fetish Week. How was it for you?

OMG, Pride was amazing and I can’t thank you and the Clonezone team for allowing me to tag along with you guys [Topher: You didn’t tag along! We wanted you there] You’re all amazing. Walking alongside you, James (mother), Xavier Sibley, Ronnie English etc. was like walking pride with my family. And then our worldwide superstar cousins Max Duro and Yoshi Kawasaki made the day even more fantastic. The build-up was phenomenal; meeting and greeting your customers in Soho, causing traffic to stop, and passersby stopping for selfies. Then, doing it’s all again plus a mini photo shoot with the Nasty pig gang during Fetish Week. I felt very lucky to have been part of that. Thank you.

What’s your favourite pair of underwear?

Ha! I don’t actually have a favourite pair but my favourite style is a brief. I love a lot of the crazy pattern designs Marco Marco and Andrew Christian design. Recently purchased the Project Claude Graffiti briefs (with cap and socks) from the lovely RAF at your Soho store. Although most of the time for escorting reasons or shooting, I have to tone down the loud patterns.

Tell us something about you that we may not know?

Ok, so growing up I spent a lot of weekends at my grandparents. My Grandfather used to have the most amazing garden. For my Grandma he grew all kinds of flowers, for the family he grew all kinds of veg, depending on what he felt like growing. I guess this rubbed off on me a little as I love to do gardening, and I even had my own allotment once which I maintained for 2years. I’ve even met Mr Allen Titchmarsh.

Thanks, James! Love ya.
